Step 1: Create

New Page

To create a new World Series Summary page first create the new page. The Page Name is [[World Series/yyyy]] where yyyy is the year of the World Series.

Install WS Table Template

Next install the World Series Table Template by performing the following:

{{subst:WSSumNew|yr=2009|yy=09}}

The variables are as follows:

yr = 4-digit year
yy = last 2-digits of the year

For example, for the year 2009 yr=2009 and yy=09.

Save New Page

Save the page.

This will install templates for the Header and the for 7 games worth of summaries.

Step 2: Header

Now go to edit the page.

The header should be on the page already. If not then enter the following:

{{WSSumHeader}}

The header variables need to be filled in. The variables for the header are:

yr = Year of World Series, 4-digit format
away = Away (city name)
ateam = Away name (team nickname)
home = Home (city name)
hteam = Home name (team nickname)

When the page is saved there should be links to the Home & Away team pages (in other words, the links should be blue, not red) and for the Year's categories. The categories may be red if they have not been created yet. To verify these variables are correct check any Category link at the root level (e.g.) and verify the naming conventions for previous seasons match the ones the new page is linking to.

Step 3: Summary Boxes

What Is Installed

What is installed already by the subst: step are 7 Templates for each game summary. The templates are {{WSSumA}} for Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 and {{WSSumH}} for Games 4, 5 and 6.

How To Use The Two Summary Templates

There are two Summary Templates. One is for use when the Visiting team won the game being summarized. This is the {{WSSumA}}. The other is for use when the home team won the game being summarized. This is the {{WSSumH}}.

The difference between the two is only in which team the template displays in bold font. If the Visiting team won then their name and score will be bold, if the home team won then their name and score will be bold.

Again, the templates for the game summaries are:

{{WSSumA}}
{{WSSumH}}

For both of these templates the variables are the same and they are:

gm = game number in the series
yr = year of World Series (yyyy)
away = Visiting team (city only)
aruns = Runs by Visiting team
home = Home team (city only)
hruns = Runs by Home team
wp = Winning pitcher in F.Last format
wrec = Winning pitcher record in series in W-L format
lp = Losing pitcher in F.Last format
lrec = Losing pitcher record in series in W-L format
save = Saving pitcher in F.Last format; if none use "none"
sv = Number of saves for saving pitcher in series; enter a space if there was no save

Completing The Summaries

Remove the {{WSSumA}} and {{WSSumH}} templates for games that were not played.

Add the variables and the data into the Template tags for the games that have been played.

Example: {{WSSumA|gm=1|yr=2006|away=Philadelphia|home=Detroit|aruns=4|hruns=2|wp=F.Villodas|wrec=1-0|lp=C.Carpenter|lrec=0-1|save=J.Gonzalez|sv=1}}

The preferred layout of the summary boxes is 2 across.
